Planning to go out this New Yearโs Eve? So are Charles County Sheriffโs Officers! ย Sheriff Rex W. Coffey said officers will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols this Friday looking for impaired drivers. โWe conduct sobriety checkpoints all throughout the year, no matter the season,โ said Sheriff Coffey.ย
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the time between Thanksgiving and New Years tends to be the most dangerous for motorists. So, the Sheriffโs Office is taking the opportunity to emphasize the importance of being responsible and designating a sober driver. ย โWe want people to celebrate the New Year but do so responsibly,โ said Sheriff Coffey. ย โOtherwise, they might spend an evening with us.โ ย
The Sheriffโs Office is also asking for help from the community. Anyone who sees a driver who may be impaired is asked to contact law enforcement immediately and provide as much information as possible about the vehicle including its make, model, color, tag number and direction of travel.ย
