At 2:30 a.m. April 18, TFC L. Nims of the Leonardtown barrack stopped a vehicle for speeding, 73 mph in a 55 mph zone, on Route 5 at New Market Turner Road in Mechanicsville.
While the trooper wrote the citation, the driver, Collins Oloboda Akintade Jr., 19, of Mechanicsville, was observed lying down across the seat to a point where he could not be seen.
TFC Nims approached the vehicle and observed Akintade reaching under the glove box.
He was immediately removed from the vehicle and a search of the area was conducted.
TFC Nims located a switch blade and Akintade was arrested and charged with Possession of a Concealed Dangerous Weapon. He was taken to the St. Maryโs County Detention Center and held pending a bail review.
