Terry Allen Jones

Owings, MD – A Delaware man is facing the possibility of going to jail for four years and paying a $25,000 fine for being in possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS). In this case the CDS was one pill, found in a plastic bag and identified as acetaminophen-oxycodone. The arrest of the suspectโ€”identified as Terry Allen Jones, 28 of Laurel, DEโ€”occurred Jan. 31 in Owings, police reported.

According to documents on file in District Court of Maryland for Calvert County, the investigating officer, Dfc. Ward of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office had been patrolling Route 260. Ward stated he โ€œhad gained information from citizens that they were seeing hand-to-hand [drug] transactions being conducted in the Dash-In parking lot.โ€ Ward said he observed a silver minivan parked across the road from the convenience store. Ward stated in court documents that the vehicle was occupied by โ€œa black male sitting in the driverโ€™s seat and the vehicle was positioned to see the Dash-In parking lot.โ€

After a few minutes Ward decided to approach the vehicle and ask the man inside for his license and registration. When learning that Jones lived in Delaware, Ward requested a K9 Unit. โ€œK9 Manny alerted on the vehicle on the front passenger side at which time gave me probable cause to search Jones and the vehicle,โ€ Ward stated. โ€œDuring the search I located multiple pill bottles that were prescribed to Jones but did not indicate any type of misuse or possible sales.โ€ The plastic bag containing the single acetaminophen-oxycodone pill โ€œwas located between the two front seats of the vehicle.โ€

Jones told Ward his (Jonesโ€™) mother gave him the pill due to his ongoing pain management issues.

A search of Jonesโ€™ record revealed he was served a warrant Jan. 11 for failing to appear for a court date. According to court records the charge in that case was driving on a suspended license.

Jonesโ€™ hearing on the drug charge is tentatively scheduled for May 6 in District Court.
