Part Beagle, Part Golden Retriever, Completely Cassie: St. Mary’s County Shelter Dog Searches For Her Perfect Home

CALIFORNIA, Md. — Cassie may be part beagle and part golden retriever, but the joyful personality that has emerged during her time at the shelter is completely her own.

With her curious expression, wagging tail and bright smile, Cassie has become a beloved companion to the staff and volunteers at the St. Mary’s County Animal Adoption & Resource Center. Now, they are hoping someone else will see the affectionate dog they have come to know and give her the permanent home she deserves.

When The BayNet visited the shelter Sunday, Cassie happily explored the outdoor play area alongside a volunteer she has grown to trust. Her warmth and playful spirit offered a glimpse of the dog waiting behind the kennel doors — one eager to build a lasting bond with the right person.

The Smile That Says It All

Cassie arrived at the shelter about a month ago feeling timid and uncertain. Rather than rushing her, staff members and volunteers gave her the patience, care and reassurance she needed to become comfortable.

Little by little, Cassie began to open up.
