
UPDATE noon – Police have confirmed that the hostage situation at the Country Inn & Suites has ended, according to PG County Police.
Capitol Heights, MD – In a press conference, PG County Police Chief,ย Henry Stawinski said that at 8:30 a.m., an argument between a man and a woman in a relationship turned violent. During the fight, the man seriously injured the woman and a male bystander who tried to intervene and then took his 6-year-old son back to their hotel room, barricading himself and the child inside.
After several hours, negotiators were able to get the man to exit the hotel room. Authorities put the man in custody and the 6-year-old, who appeared to be unharmed, was checked over by medical professionals. The woman and bystander who were injured during the assault were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Chief Stawinski says charges are forthcoming for the man responsible for the incident.ย

Police say the incident was originally reported as a domestic dispute between a man and a woman in the cafe area of the hotel. The woman was able to get away from the man who retreated and barricaded himself in his hotel room. Reports say that the man has possibly taken a person hostage in the room but authorities are still investigating their role in the incident.ย
The Country Inn & Suites has been evacuated and the roadway betweenย Hampton Mall Drive and the beltway has been closed while police handle the operation.ย
