A detective assigned to investigate a string of recent package thefts located a car linked to all of the crimes which lead to the arrest of two suspects. The suspects are identified as 22-year-old Breanna Stewart of the 6000 block of Heatherwood Drive in Alexandria and 23-year-old Edita Hynson of the 1100 block of Kennebec Street in Oxon Hill. They are linked to at least five package thefts in Fort Washington and Accokeek on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. We believe there are likely additional victims. Specific items were recovered inside of the suspects’ car We are now attempting to identify the owners of those items.
On November 6th, at approximately 5:15 pm, a resident called 911 to report a package had been stolen from their outside of their home. One of our detectives who was already investigating a string of these cases responded to the area and was able to locate the suspects’ car on Mattawoman Way in Accokeek. The detective called for additional officers to respond and a traffic stop was conducted. The suspects were driving a gray 2019 Scion with Virginia tags VLK9815.
Detectives are looking into whether the women committed additional package thefts. We would like to hear from anyone who may have had a package stolen in the Fort Washington and Accokeek areas this week and did not report those crimes to police.
Stewart and Hynson are charged with multiple counts of theft.
