Police Say College Student Stole SUV, Later Caught by GPS Device

Police say a St. Mary’s College student stole a high-end SUV today that was parked at the campus and drove it to the racetrack at Budd’s Creek.

Police used the vehicle’s On-Star retrieval system to pinpoint the location of the vehicle.

St. Mary’s Sheriff’s deputies encountered the suspect in the vehicle, and ordered him out.

The suspect, Howard Marshall Hicks, 18 of Poquoson, Va., struggled with officers after being ordered to exit the vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office reported this afternoon that Deputy Michael Worrey responded to the college and started the investigation.

Investigation revealed that the missing vehicle, a 2005 GMC Danali, was equipped with On-Star.

Once activated at the request of the victim, Deputy Worrey received information that the vehicle was in the area of Budds Creek Raceway.

Officers responded and located the vehicle and found Hicks in possession of the vehicle.

He was arrested and charged with: Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest and Trespassing.
