NANJEMOY, Md. — Promise Landing Farm at Melwood Recreation Center has been awarded a $150,000 state grant to support improvements at its adaptive equestrian facility serving individuals with disabilities in Charles County.
The funding was approved on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, by the Maryland Board of Public Works as part of the Capital Grants and Loans program.
The funds will support planning, design, construction, repairs, renovations, site improvements, and equipment upgrades at the facility. Project goals include increasing accessibility, enhancing safety, reducing environmental impact, improving operational efficiency, and expanding the farm’s capacity to serve more participants.
Promise Landing Farm partnered with Melwood Recreation Center in 2021 to lead equestrian programming on-site. The Nanjemoy location serves as the farm’s second facility and supports inclusive programs such as Camp Accomplish, Access Adventures, and Operation Tohidu.
As shared in a statement on Facebook, Melwood said, “At Melwood, we’re committed to leveraging the resources and experience of other organizations across the DMV region to advance our mission and serve as many people as possible. Promise Landing Farm is at the forefront of creating inclusive and engaging services for people with disabilities. With our teams’ combined expertise and expansion to two properties with more horses, we’re excited to increase access to these services that help people with disabilities live, work, and thrive in our community.”
Promise Landing Farm welcomes individuals of all abilities, including those with autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and other physical, developmental, or mental health conditions. The farm’s programs are designed to be inclusive, supportive, and empowering for participants with or without disabilities.
Funding for the project comes from the Maryland Consolidated Capital Bond Loan of 2024, authorized under Chapter 720 of the Acts of 2024.
