Well it was a great Easter out on the Chesapeake this past weekend. With a
last minute decision to take a family fishing trip the hunt was on for me to
get the kids and wife a big rockfish. Well the morning started slow but
quickly turned into a heck of a day one which the family will not soon
forget. Straight out of Solomons Island I put out the normal trolling spread
and started trolling east and west in search of the big ones. Next thing you
know the girls chilly morning turned into warmth with a nice 38 inch getting
on the line. Things went slow for a couple hours when someone turned on the
light switch to fish gold. One rod went down when wife Jennifer took the rod
and easily handled the big 40 inch hog. We noticed a red tag which said
reward wow we said pretty cool maybe we won some money Jennifer said which I
agreed. After checking the tag we called the number and gave the lady the
information she said we won a nice certificate and a hat. The certificate
would state when and where the fish was released. I think this program is
very helpful to them in managing the stock of Rockfish. Anyway after the big
forty inch was brought in another rod went down and Allison (Daughter Age
12) showed us up with her big momma 45 inch cow! It was funny she had the
rod in the rod holder while reeling it up and said when she saw it come to
the surface that it was a shark ! LOL!! And to a kid you can imagine it
really does. Brittany (Daughter Age 15) was handling the steering of the
boat while Jennifer (Wife) and I tried to net Allisonโs fish of a life time.
Well we had it in the net then it got back out then we got a second chance
and pulled it in. Wow! We all said as we high fived each other in disbelief.
Now my kids who normally like sitting around the house on their computers
were having some good old fashion fun. What an Easter what a beautiful time
out on the bay! So here we are with almost our limit on fish when another
rod pulled down Jeeze they all said another one? LOL! So I get the rod this
time and while pulling this one in four more rods went down! Holy cow we all
said we can’t believe this stuff! Also the dummy line had one on it
unbelievable we kept saying to each other. Well we released them all as fast
as possible. Honestly I could not get the rods in fast enough so that we
could leave to stop from catching them. Well anyway I hope that anyone who
reads this will be encouraged to get involved in our states natural resource
and try their hand at fishing for one of these big ones. If you don’t feel
comfortable doing it yourself look on the internet at charter boats located
in your area and give them a call or ask a friend who has a boat of their
own. With fuel prices the way they are a lot of fishermen love to take
friends and family and really appreciate the help with fuel cost. Good luck,
see you on the Chesapeake.
