A former Baptist minister who was indicted late last year on 22 counts related to alleged child and sex abuse incidents, has a rejected a deal from the Calvert County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office to plead guilty to five of the counts.

The brief plea hearing was held Monday, April 1 in Calvert County Circuit Court before Judge Steven Platt.

The accused, Douglas Wayne Myers, 63, is charged with 13 counts of child abuse/custodian, six counts of second-degree sex offense and three counts of third-degree sex offense. The crimes are alleged to have occurred between March 1995 and December 2000.

Myersโ€™ attorney, Christopher A. Griffiths, rejected the plea agreement presented by Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney Kathryn Marsh, on his clientโ€™s behalf.

Myers had over 30 years of ministry at churches in Maryland, Alabama and Florida. He served time in Florida on sex crime charges. Myers was required to register as a sex offender as a condition for his release.

He has been incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center since being extradited to Maryland.

A criminal jury trial on the charges is tentatively set for June 4.
