RIDGE, Md. — On Sept. 24, 2025, Terry Francis Mattingly, 57, of Ridge, was arrested following a reported domestic assault and alleged strangulation at a residence in Ridge. Mattingly is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault, according to court records.
Court documents state deputies made contact with a woman who reported she and Mattingly had returned home from a bar and began arguing. The woman told deputies that Mattingly allegedly struck her in the face with a closed fist and strangled her during the altercation. According to charging documents, deputies noted visible injuries consistent with her statement, including bruising and scratch marks on her neck and swelling near her left eye.
Deputies approached Mattingly, who denied striking the woman and said she had scratched him but claimed he did not retaliate. He was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center and formally charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
Under Maryland law, first-degree assault is a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison, while second-degree assault is a misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.
A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 24, 2025, in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court.
