The driver of the Toyota Corolla, 25-year-old, King Mungai of La Plata, succumbed to his injuries atย 4:13 a.m. at Prince Georgeโs Shock Trauma on January 22, 2010.
Maryland State Police in La Plata are continuing with their investigation into a serious crash that had Route 301 shut down for hours yesterday evening, Jan. 21.
The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. in Waldorfย on southboundย Route 301ย just south ofย Mitchell Road. Two vehicles were involved in the crash to include a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by 25-year-old, King Mungai of La Plata. The second vehicle was a 2010 Cascadia Freightliner driver by 43-year-old, Gordon Barnes of Connelly Springs, NC.
Investigation revealed , the driver of the Toyotaย was attempting to make a left onto Mitchell Roadย from northbound US Route 301.ย ย The driver of the freightlinerย was traveling southbound on US Route 301 at Mitchell Road.ย ย The driverย of theย Toyota ย failed to yield the right of way toย theย freightliner. The freightliner then struck the Toyota.
Mungai, the driver of the Toyota was transported by medavac to Prince George’s Shock Trauma for head injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of the freightliner was not injured.
Charges are pending against at this time.
