Drayden, MD – An electrical fire late Friday, March 24 in St. Mary’s County totally destroyed a recreational vehicle and left two dogs dead, state investigators reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze in the RV, parked in a lot on Dennis Point Way in Drayden, was discovered and reported by an occupant around 11:30 p.m.
“The fire was determined to be accidental as a result of a faulty extension cord located on the backside of the RV,” the investigating deputy fire marshal reported. “The two occupants were able to escape, however, two dogs perished as a result of the fire. The fire destroyed the RV, its contents and a vehicle located next to the RV.”
Thirty-five firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought it under control in 15 minutes. The RV was a 33-foot Jayco RV. Total damage is estimated at $120,000. The occupants were identified in the fire marshal’s report as Chris and Kimberly Herman.
