WALDORF, Md. — An Indian Head man has been charged with theft and trespassing after authorities said he stole merchandise from a Waldorf grocery store and remained on private property despite having been previously barred.
Court records show Jason Darren Hagens, 40, faces misdemeanor charges of theft of property valued at $100 to under $1,500 and trespass on private property.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded Dec. 28, 2025, to a report of a theft in progress at a Safeway store on King Street. A store manager reported that a suspect had taken merchandise, placed items into bags and walked past all points of sale without paying.
Officers located Hagens near a nearby convenience store and detained him. The Safeway manager positively identified him as the individual involved in the theft. A search incident to arrest revealed Hagens was carrying multiple store items belonging to Safeway.
Court documents list the stolen merchandise as including personal care and household items, with a total value of $291.82.
Investigators also determined Hagens had previously been barred and trespassed from the property earlier in December.
Hagens was taken into custody and initially held without bond following his arrest on Dec. 28. During a bond review hearing the following day, a judge set bail at $3,000.
A trial scheduling hearing is set for Feb. 11, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
