Before the ink was dry on his new contract, Moondog Michaels has been terminated by the owners of Somar Communications, operators of FM 97.7, 98.3 and 102.9.
Moondog was hired in from the West Coast as program director and morning DJ for the newly rededicated 97.7 The Rocket.
Moondog gave 97.7 a complete facelift, changing it from oldies to modern/alternative rock. And 98.3 received a tummy tuck: it continued to play a variety, but not the garbage that was played before, as Moondog and others described it.
Moondog took to the airwaves on 97.7 earlier this month, but he has been working behind the scenes for several months with Somar Communications, of Mechanicsville. He also did a show on 98.3 before the station picked up Boomer and Dawn.
When contacted by The Bay Net, Moondog would only say Somar owner Roy Robertson thought he was โhard-headed and stubborn.โ
Maybe Robertson is a Neil Diamond fan.
Co-owner Robertson said he has โno commentโ on Moondogโs termination, when contacted by The Bay Net this morning.
Southern Marylanders (and Northern Neck Virginians) havenโt seen or heard the last of Moondog, lo and behold he is considering starting The Moondog Show on the Internet.
