A Lexington Park man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for entering a school property while being registered as a sex offender. Circuit Court Judge Michael Stamm sentenced Joseph R. Payne, 35, on April 30 after Payne had pled guilty to the charge during a plea hearing on March 20.

Payne allegedly entered Spring Ridge Middle School on June 6 of last year in violation of state law prohibiting registered sex offenders from entering school or day care center property.

Two other similar charges against Payne were nolle prossed by the state as the result of Payneโ€™s plea. Payne was represented by Attorney A. Shane Mattingly, P.C.

Payne was also given a suspended three and a half year sentence in addition to the unsuspended 18-month jail term, work release was authorized for him and he will be on five yearsโ€™ probation after the sentence is served.
