MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball team saw their two-game win streak snapped Saturday afternoon (Feb. 10). St. Mary’s College (13-11, 8-3 UEC) dropped a 73-52 decision on the road to Penn State Harrisburg (21-3, 11-0 UEC). With the win, Harrisburg completes the United East Conference season sweep of the Seahawks.

How It Happened

  • Sophomore forward Jake Koverman (Severna Park, Md./Southern) gave the Seahawks an early 3-0 lead before Harrisburg responded with a triple of its own a minute later (17:25) for the first of seven tied scores.
  • St. Mary’s College boasted a 16-12 lead – its biggest of the game – at 12:16 following a layup by first-year guard Kyree Smith (Baltimore, Md./City), capping a 9-2 spurt by the Seahawks.
  • The last draw came when Koverman made it 22-all at 4:41 by knocking down a pair of free throws.
  • The Lions closed out the half on a 13-5 run to carry a 35-27 advantage into the break.
  • SMCM continued to struggle to find its shooting stroke in the second half as the Seahawks’ shooting percentage dipped from 36.7 percent in the first 20 minutes to 33.3 percent.
  • Harrisburg never relinquished the lead and owned a double-digit margin for the final 13 minutes of the game, owning its biggest advantage of 21 points (66-45) at 3:15 when Donyae Baylor-Carroll made one of two free throws.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Seahawks posted a season-best 85.7 free throw percentage (12-14) but only connected on two of 16 three-point attempts with Koverman making both.
  • Harrisburg had the hot hand and notched a .509 field goal percentage (28-55) for the game, including 55.6 percent in the second half. The Lions also drained half of their 16 triples.

St. Mary’s College Game Notes

  • Koverman paced the Seahawks with 13 points and a game-best eight rebounds.
  • Senior captain Hollique Johnson (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) also scored in double digits with 12 and added four boards.
