On February 4, 2011, sheriffโ€™s deputies responded to ย Briscoe Turn Road in Owings, ย for the report of two children that had walked off from their yard.

When units arrived they learned that two Brothers, ages 6 and 4, were playing in their yard and had wandered off in an unknown direction. Sheriffโ€™s Office road patrol units, detectives, K9 officers, and Special Operations Team members were sent to assist in locating the two boys. Sheriff Evans arrived on the scene and requested the assistance of the Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 7.

Trooper 7 arrived and started to check the area from above for the two boys. A citizen in the area went outside of his house, located on Lower Marlboro Road, when he heard the helicopter and started to signal to the helicopter. Deputies arrived at the residence and located the boys inside.ย

Dfc. Sloane went to the residence on Lower Marlboro Road and spoke with the residents about what had happened. They stated that their doorbell rang and when they opened the door they saw the two boys standing on their front step, soaked.

They brought the two in and got them out of their wet clothes and found out that the boys were playing in a creek behind their house when one of them fell in. He was cold and wet so they came immediately out of the woods and started ringing doorbells to find help. The female resident got the boys out of the wet clothes when they heard the helicopter. Detective DeFelice arrived shortly after the helicopter spotted the citizen and transported the boyโ€™s home. ย

During the attempt to locate the missing children, a deputy assigned to the patrol division fell on a patch of ice striking their head. The deputy was flown to PG. Hospital. The deputy is currently in stable condition.
