SEVERN, Md. — Anne Arundel County police arrested a Severn man late Tuesday after officers said he was found with a handgun despite being prohibited from possessing firearms.

Officers were called at 10:10 p.m. Aug. 26, 2025, to the 8300 block of Candlewick Court for a reported disturbance involving an armed man. Responding officers located 40-year-old Nicholas D. Holmes and recovered a 9mm Ruger handgun at the scene.

Investigators determined Holmes was barred from owning firearms and also had illegal ammunition in his possession, according to charging documents. He was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported during the dispute.

Holmes is charged with illegal possession of a regulated firearm and ammunition.

Court records show that he was initially held without bond, with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. A trial date is scheduled for Oct. 17 in Annapolis.
