LEXINGTON PARK, Md. A man shot in the head during a March altercation and already on probation for a 2022 firearms conviction is back in custody after investigators say he was caught with a stolen handgun tucked into his waistband — while attempting to dodge arrest by giving police a fake name.

Kaevon O’Neal Jefferson, 28, of Lexington Park, is facing new charges of possessing a stolen firearm, illegal ammunition possession, providing false identification to avoid prosecution, and multiple counts related to prohibited gun possession.

According to court records, Jefferson was arrested on July 18 in the parking lot of a Colton Point Road business in Clements. Officers had arrived to execute a search warrant on a vehicle and found Jefferson in the front passenger seat. During the stop, Jefferson allegedly identified himself as “Eli Chase Thomas” but faltered when asked to confirm his birthdate. The name belonged to a real individual and not to Jefferson. Investigators later discovered that Jefferson had two active warrants — one related to violating his probation on a 2024 gun conviction and another for firearm possession.

A search of Jefferson’s person revealed a Glock 48 semi-automatic handgun concealed in the groin area of his pants. The firearm was fully loaded with nine rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. A records check later confirmed the weapon had been reported stolen in Henrico County, Virginia.

Jefferson now faces six charges stemming from the July 18 arrest. If convicted on the most serious offense — possession of a regulated stolen firearm — he could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He is currently being held without bond by order of Judge Karen Christy Holt Chesser, who reviewed his case on July 21. His trial is scheduled for Aug. 19 in St. Mary’s District Court.

This latest arrest comes just four months after Jefferson was the subject of a major law enforcement investigation in March, when deputies responded to reports of gunfire near his residence on Marshall Boulevard. Officers located Jefferson inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to the head. Surveillance video reviewed in that case allegedly shows Jefferson engaged in a gunfight with two armed individuals, both of whom approached him in the early morning hours near a playground. The footage reportedly captured Jefferson exchanging fire and retreating to cover behind air-conditioning units, where deputies later recovered shell casings and a firearm.

Jefferson was indicted last December for separate weapons charges related to an incident on Aug. 11, 2022, where he was convicted of possessing a regulated firearm after a prior felony conviction involving an unlawful motor vehicle taking. He was sentenced to five years in jail, with all but one year suspended, and three years of supervised probation.

Jefferson’s identity was confirmed in each case through his Maryland driver’s license. Prosecutors in St. Mary’s County have not indicated whether they will seek to consolidate the charges or pursue enhanced sentencing due to his repeated firearm-related offenses.

Why do’THEY’ want more ‘Gun Control’ laws, when it is apparent that ‘THEY’ don’t want to enforce the laws that are already in place.

  2. When are we going to figure out that we need to keep these violent criminals behind bars?
