Mark your calendar for an environmental outreach event on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Charles County Government Building parking lot (200 Baltimore Street, La Plata). Backyard composting demonstrations will be featured, as well as free, secure document shredding.
Two backyard composting demonstrations will teach effective techniques for reducing waste by turning yard waste and kitchen scraps into valuable compost. Demonstrations are provided in partnership with the University of Maryland Extension, Charles County office. University of Maryland Extension staff and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions about home composting.
Free document shredding services will be available for the duration of the event. Residents can bring up to five boxes (per vehicle) of personal documents for shredding and recycling.
