
SOUTHERN MARYLAND — High school seniors graduating in 2026 in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties have an opportunity to apply for local scholarship funding through the Southern Maryland Group of the Sierra Club, with applications open through May 31, 2026.
The organization is offering one $1,000 scholarship and two $300 runner-up scholarships to help support students continuing their education after graduation. Eligible applicants must be graduating seniors from one of the three Southern Maryland counties.
According to the Southern Maryland Sierra Club, the scholarships are intended for students who demonstrate academic achievement, environmental awareness and a commitment to community service.
Supporting Future Environmental Leaders
The Southern Maryland Group is part of the Sierra Club’s Maryland Chapter and focuses on environmental conservation, education and advocacy efforts throughout the tri-county region.
The group promotes its mission through the motto Explore, Enjoy, and Protect the Planet, which guides activities including outdoor programs, conservation projects and community involvement opportunities.
Local efforts include environmental service projects such as invasive plant removal, tree plantings and native plant garden projects, along with educational outreach and advocacy related to conservation and responsible development.

Students interested in applying must submit their applications by May 31, 2026. Application forms are available in multiple formats, including PDF, DOCX and an online application option through the Sierra Club website.
