LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Superintendent of Schools, Dr. J. Scott Smith, announces the administrative appointments made by the Board of Education at its meeting of July 16, 2025.
The Board appointed Ms. Summer Wood as Assistant Principal, 11 month, at Green Holly Elementary School. Ms. Wood holds a Master’s Degree from Towson University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Frostburg State University. Ms. Wood currently serves as a Science Teacher at Margaret Brent Middle School.
Dr. Wendy Zimmerman has been appointed as Principal, 12 month, at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School. Dr. Zimmerman holds a Doctorate Degree from the University of Maryland at College Park, a Master’s Degree from Towson University, and a Bachelor’s Degree from Millersville University. Dr. Zimmerman currently serves as Acting Principal, 12 month, at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School.
The Board of Education was informed of the following Administrative Transfers:
Ms. Lisa Dean will transfer from Supervisor of Special Education in the Department of Special Education to Academic Dean II, 12 month, at Park Hall Elementary School.
Ms. Ashley Gallo will transfer from Assistant Principal, 11 month, at Dynard Elementary School to Assistant Principal, 11 month, at Leonardtown Elementary School.
Dr. Vernetta Smith will transfer from Assistant Principal, 11 month, at Chopticon High School to Assistant Principal, 11 month, at Leonardtown High School.
Ms. Kayla Verbic will transfer from Assistant Principal, 11 month, at Leonardtown Elementary School to Assistant Principal, 11 month, at Dynard Elementary School.
Dr. Zimmerman’s appointment and Ms. Dean’s transfer will become effective July 21, 2025.
Ms. Wood’s appointment and Ms. Gallo’s, Dr. Smith’s, and Ms. Verbic’s transfers will become effective July 30, 2025.
