HUGHESVILLE, Md. – Two of SMECO’s co-op crews headed south to Statesboro, GA, yesterday to help fellow co-op Excelsior EMC with restoration efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. This morning, 100 percent of Excelsior EMC’s service territory was without power. #hurricanehelene

“Helene has weakened to a tropical depression and is moving north across the Southeast, bringing strong winds and heavy rain in what the National Hurricane Center called “life-threatening” conditions. At least 42 deaths across the Southeast have been reported as a result of the storm.”, says NBC news updates. “Over 3 million people are without power across Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia amid fears that outages could last weeks.”

We thank these guys for their effort and willingness to help others. We are also sure that the folks down in Statesboro, GA will be thankful, especially with the fact that these crews are the most qualified to help and not a crew hand selected by DEI.
