First Sergeant Floyd Reed of the United States Army presented Sheriff Frederick E. Davis with a certificate of appreciation on Nov. 30 for the Charles County Sheriffโs Officeโs support of the military throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Reed is a member of the Bravo Company, 2-101 Brigade Troops Battalion, which is known as the โNighthawksโ company. Earlier this year, he visited www.anysoldier.com, the Web site for an organization that helps citizens send care packages to soldiers overseas, and read an article about the Sheriffโs Office sending care packages through the organization. Reed, who lives in Waldorf with his wife Stacy and their children, was proud to see his hometown law enforcement agency supporting troops and sent an e-mail to Sheriff Frederick E. Davis extending his appreciation. Sheriff Davis forwarded the e-mail to the employees of the Sheriffโs Office and he and other employees began corresponding with Reed by e-mail. When they learned Reed would be home, they prepared a care package for him and gave it to his mother, who ensured it was delivered to Reed. Reed eventually went back to Iraq for his second tour and the correspondence with Sheriffโs Office personnel continued.
In November, Reed was granted a brief period of leave by the Army and returned to his Waldorf home. During that time, he visited the Sheriffโs Headquarters to present the certificate to Sheriff Davis. The certificate, signed by Reed and Captain Basel M. Mixon IV, ย thanked the Sheriffโs Office for its efforts and said the agencyโs โcommitment to excellence and continued support for soldiers greatly enhanced the morale of all soldiers assigned to Bravo Company, thereby significantly increasing the combat readiness of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.โ
The Sheriffโs Office encourages all Americans to support their troops. For more information about how to send care packages, visit www.AnySoldier.com. For information about the Sheriffโs Office, visit www.ccso.us.
