SOLOMONS, Md. — There’s good news for this year’s Solomons July 4 fireworks display.
The Solomons Business Association was awarded a Maryland 250 Once in a Generation Grant of $15,000 to help cover the costs of this year’s fireworks show, which will be a special display honoring the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States.
The grant is funded through the Maryland 250 Commission, which supports local events that commemorate the 250th and engage local communities.
The annual Solomons Fourth of July fireworks display typically costs approximately $40,000 to produce. This year’s show is expected to cost approximately $60,000 as the Solomons Business Association “plans to coordinate an enhanced fireworks display celebrating the nation’s heritage and spirit of patriotism.” The $15,000 grant will provide meaningful support, as funding for this event relies heavily on community donations.
Calvert’s Board of County Commissioners approved the grant agreement at the Tuesday, April 28, meeting, and funds will be distributed to the Solomons Business Association.
Director of Economic Development Julie Oberg said during the meeting that there are numerous events going on in the community in and around July 4 this year and encouraged residents to check the Calvert 250 website for more information.
Anyone interested in contributing to the Solomons fireworks this year can find more information on their Facebook page and donate to the GoFundMe.
