SOUTHERN MARYLAND — Communities across Southern Maryland are remembering lives lost to overdose and showing support for families, friends and loved ones affected by substance use as part of International Overdose Awareness Day.
In St. Mary’s County, the community is honoring those whose lives have been lost to overdose and the families, friends and communities who continue to carry their memory.
Every life lost is one too many. Through awareness, prevention, education and connection to resources, the community can continue working toward a healthier St. Mary’s County.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office also joined the community in observing International Overdose Awareness Day, remembering those who have died from overdose and standing with the families, friends and loved ones forever impacted by the crisis.
Officials emphasized that overdose is preventable and help is available. Raising awareness, reducing stigma and supporting those struggling with substance use can help save lives.
The observance also serves as an opportunity to remember those who are gone, support those who are grieving and continue working together toward hope, healing and prevention.
