Solomons, MD – October 19, 2019 – The Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) is opening its doors on Friday evening, November 1, 2019 for Special Needs Night. The museum will be open exclusively for all individuals with special needs and their families or caregivers from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. See why the museum is a fun and welcoming place for families to visit any day of the week! This event is offered in cooperation with Calvert County Parks & Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Services.
Meet “Bubbles”, the museum otter mascot, learn about fish, fossils, river otters, skates and rays, maritime history, and enjoy activities in the Discovery Room. Take a 30-minute cruise on the Wm. B. Tennison at 5:15 p.m. or 5:55 p.m., courtesy of the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners. Have fun in a supportive environment; a special calming room will be available. The Museum Store will be open and chock full of items for all ages and interests. See a model train display in the Harms Gallery, courtesy of the Chesapeake Beach Model Railroad Club. The train will be on display through Saturday, November 2 at 1 p.m. in the Harms Gallery.
“On Special Needs Night, we open up the colorful world of the museum for guests to enjoy at their own pace. In addition to everything that the museum has to offer, this year we will feature free boat rides on the Tennison (weather permitting) and a model railroad layout – the first time we’ve ever featured both on the same night! It’s all free of charge, and I encourage parents and kids to come out for a really fun family experience in a safe and welcoming environment,” said Jeffrey Murray, Director.
