At 12:01 a.m. on December 23 volunteers from Station 3 were alerted in the area of Spring Ridge Middle School for a reported motor vehicle accident.

Engine 33, under the direction of FF. Chris Jones responded immediately with 5 volunteers. While en-route Squad 3 (Sgt. Welch) and Fire Chief Johnson were advised of reports of one vehicle overturned with entrapment.

Engine 33 arrived on the scene to find a two vehicle head-on collision with one on its side with a double entrapment.

Engine 33 crew split up and pulled a 1 3/4 line for the extrication and then stabilized the vehicle and then started preparing for the squad to arrive and stabilize the overturned vehicle. Squad 3 arrived and the crew joined up with 33’s crew and stabilized the vehicle with the Para Tech struts and then Capt. Evans and Sgt. Welch used the “O” Cutters and a Attic Ladder to perform a roof flap at the “B” Post for Removal while Engineer Gary Hanbury and Fire Chief Johnson performed a Complete Roof Removal on the second vehicle.

All occupants were removed within 20 minutes of the on scene arrival. Due to the Mechanism of Injuries and the severity of some of the injuries command asked again for the Medevac but they were still down due to weather.

Fire Chief 3 held the “Spring Ridge Command” and Captain 3 held the Operations. Crews operated on the scene for about an hour and thirty minutes for lighting and assistance in uprighting the vehicle.
