LEXINGTON PARK, Md. โ As of Thursday morning at roughly 11 a.m., the Maryland Department of Health(MDH) is confirming a total of 6,185 cases of the novel coronavirus(COVID-19) across the state of Maryland, while there are going to be more results that are presumably still waiting to be confirmed. This new total means there are 656 newly confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, which is relatively less than what has been confirmed in the past few days.
Of the confirmed cases, over 1,348 people have ever been hospitalized, and 138 of those were recorded in the past day.
376 previously infected people have been released from their isolation according to MDH, 11 of which have been recorded in the past day.ย
14 people in the state have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the stateโs death toll unfortunately up to 138.
Negative test results also grew, with at least 2,411 negative confirmations in the past day, bring that total to 35,344.
St. Maryโs County now counts cases on a rolling basis, and records from the county show a total of 76 cases now, which is up four from Wednesday. The county is reporting that 22 people so far who have been infected, have recovered and been released from isolation. 18 St. Maryโs County residents have been hospitalized at any hospital in Maryland due to COVID-19. There have been 357 negative test results from residents of the county. Men in the county have a slightly higher rate of infection, sitting at 44 cases, whereas woman make up the other 32 cases.
At this time, there are 322 officially confirmed cases in the Southern Maryland region. Charles County saw their previously confirmed total of 164 cases rise to 180. In Calvert County, MDH has confirmed 10 more official cases, bringing their total up to 66.
A majority of the positive cases across the state are still found in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County. PG County has officially has over 1,476 confirmed cases, the most of any county in the state, with an overnight increase of at least 166 cases.
Since yesterday, Montgomery County saw an increase of at least 126 newly recorded cases, bringing their total to at least 1,214.
Anne Arundel County has also confirmed 39 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing their official total to 505.
On April 8, the total number of confirmed cases by the Maryland Department of Health was at least 5,529. As of April 9, that recorded number is at least 6,196, showing over a 11.8% increase across the state in the past 24 hours.ย
