DUNKIRK, Md. — A Silver Spring man remains in custody at the Calvert County Detention Center after a string of overnight thefts and vehicle tampering across multiple neighborhoods ended in a police pursuit and arrest. Emmanuel Adjapong Mellish, 21, is facing a six-count misdemeanor docket after authorities linked him to a coordinated vehicle burglary operation in northern Calvert County.
According to charging documents filed May 8, 2025, deputies with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office began receiving reports of suspicious activity around 11 p.m. the night prior. A homeowner on Fielder Drive in Dunkirk reported that both her Kia Sorento and Subaru Crosstrek had been entered during the early hours of May 8. Although nothing was taken, the vehicles showed signs of having been thoroughly rummaged through.
Roughly two hours later, another resident reported that two suspects had walked down his driveway and entered his parked vehicles — a white Chevrolet Cruze and a black GMC pickup truck. According to the report, the suspects stole a Samsung Galaxy Note in an Otterbox case, valued at approximately $1,150, as well as $12 in coins. Security footage from the residence reportedly captured the suspects at around 1:17 a.m.
By 1:20 a.m., deputies spotted a vehicle reported stolen in the area of Smithville Road and Fielder Court. A brief pursuit ensued. The suspects ultimately parked and remained inside the vehicle, where they were approached and arrested without incident.
Mellish was identified as one of the occupants. Deputies stated that a backpack belonging to Mellish contained loose change and black gloves. The stolen Samsung Galaxy was also recovered inside the vehicle, linking Mellish directly to the reported theft.
Mellish has been charged with four counts of rogue and vagabond (unauthorized presence in a motor vehicle), one count of theft between $100 and $1,500 and one count of theft under $100.
Court records indicate that Mellish was held without bond following his initial hearing and appeared before Judge John P. McKenna at Calvert District Court on May 9. He remains in custody pending trial, scheduled for July 1, 2025, in Courtroom 2.
Also arrested at the scene was Ryan Eveard Moses Lowe, 20, of Bowie. The pair are reportedly under investigation for a broader series of thefts in the county. The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed whether additional charges are expected.
