Suspended, Revoked Driver Found with Drugs at Traffic Stop

On January 11, 2011 at 9:45 a.m., TFC N. E. Gresko initiated a traffic stop on a Nissan Altima at Maryland Route 5, south of Maryland Route 247.

Upon making contact with the operator of the vehicle, Steven Preston Yates, 60, of Loveville, TFC Gresko detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Yates was also observed placing an unknown item between the center console and the driver’s seat. A probable cause search of Yates’ person and vehicle, revealed CDS and CDS Paraphernalia in his possession.

A MVA query also indicated that Yates was not authorized to operate the vehicle due to a revoked and suspended driving status. Yates was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged accordingly. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
