POLICE TAPE LINE IN MARYLAND

BELTSVILLE, Md. — An 18-year-old Pennsylvania resident is facing multiple charges in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy inside a Beltsville home over Mother’s Day weekend, according to charging documents filed in Prince George’s County District Court.

Kimaury Idrassa Kamara, who resides on North Baltimore Avenue in Mt. Holly Springs, Pa., was arrested on May 10 following the death of a juvenile male who police found with a gunshot wound to the head. The decedent was identified in court filings as a minor.

According to police, officers with the Prince George’s County Police Department responded to a shooting call around 4:24 p.m. on the 11700 block of Heartwood Drive. Inside a second-floor bedroom, they found the decedent critically wounded and began coordinating emergency transport. The boy was flown via Park Police helicopter to Washington Hospital MedStar Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:11 p.m. The D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to rule the death a homicide.

During the investigation, homicide detectives spoke with a witness who had been inside the room with both the victim and Kamara at the time of the shooting. The witness told investigators that Kamara was “playing around” with a gun when it went off, striking the victim in the head. The witness reportedly heard the gunshot and saw that the victim had been hit.

Kamara waived his Miranda rights and told police he had been lying on the bed manipulating the slide of the handgun. Believing the firearm was not loaded, he said he pointed it in the direction of the victim and pulled the trigger. Kamara initially fled the room, taking the weapon downstairs, then returned to try to render aid until emergency responders arrived.

Investigators executed a search warrant approved by Judge Anderson of the Prince George’s County Circuit Court and recovered three handguns from the residence: a Glock 26 9 mm, a Glock 43x 9 mm with an obliterated serial number, and a 9 mm Polymer 80 ghost gun equipped with a 30-round extended magazine and machine gun conversion switch. Spent cartridge casings and bullet fragments were also recovered from the bedroom where the shooting occurred.

Kamara has been charged with manslaughter, use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, possession of a firearm by a minor, illegal possession of ammunition, and multiple weapons-related offenses including possessing a firearm with an altered identification number and possession of an assault weapon.

He is being held without bond following a May 12 review hearing before Judge Llamilet Gutierrez in Prince George’s County District Court. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10.

According to court records, the case is being prosecuted by the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. Kamara is represented by the Public Defender’s Office.
