DUNKIRK, Md. — Authorities in Calvert County are investigating an armed robbery that unfolded at R&J Liquors on Chesapeake Beach Road on the night of January 9, 2025, shortly after a power outage in the area caused by a motor vehicle collision.
Deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the store at approximately 8:53 p.m. after receiving reports of a robbery. According to investigators, two suspects dressed in dark clothing entered the store, brandished firearms, and ordered employees to empty the cash register. They also demanded the victims’ cell phones before fleeing the scene.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau were called in to lead the investigation. Inside the store, evidence of the chaotic encounter was visible: a broken liquor bottle and toppled product racks lay scattered across the floor.
The robbery occurred roughly 15 minutes after the power outage, a coincidence that investigators are probing as a potential element of the crime. Authorities have not yet determined the direction of the suspects’ escape or the type of vehicle they used.
The value of the stolen property, including cash and phones, is estimated at $1,353. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The sheriff’s office urges anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Bureau. The investigation remains active.
