Combine a beautiful fall day, music, St. Maryโ€™s College students and a touch of chili powder and what do you get? The 6th Annual St. Maryโ€™s College Chili Cook Off, sponsored by the Peer Health Educators.

Students and staff alike crowded the Campus Center Patio to taste the variety of studentsโ€™ Chili concoctions. Recipes were divided into three categories:ย  traditional, non-traditional and vegetarian. The winners of each category were selected by a panel of faculty judges who critiqued each dish based on taste, texture and presentation. The winning recipes will be exhibited in the campus Great Room, where the students dine.

Many student clubs had booths set up for the crowd to enjoy. The Fencing Club offered a chance to settle disputes through duals, and three of St. Maryโ€™s acapella groups performed various selections throughout the afternoon. To cap off the fundraising event, faculty Shaun Grahe, Mark Hume, and Dean Mark Heidrich each received a pie-in-the-face from brave students.

โ€œIt was enjoyable, nicely-planned, and definitely a hit with all students!โ€ said Harper Denhard, who experienced her first SMCM Chili Cook Off Tuesday. โ€œThe Peer Health Committee did a great job promoting health and breast cancer awareness,โ€ Denhard added. Tuesdayโ€™s event raised $650 for the cause.
