The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that each year we participate in The State Highway Administrationโs Maryland Law Enforcement Challenge, a yearlong initiative comprised of enforcement and education related activities designed to enhance traffic safety enforcement.ย The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office strives each year to reduce the number of traffic related crashes that result in serious injuries and fatalities.ย Each year three main areas are focused on for the Maryland Law Enforcement Challenge in the area of traffic safety; enforcement of Maryland’s occupant protection laws, impaired driving prevention and aggressive driving enforcement.ย An emphasis for educating the public is also an important component of the challenge.ย This yearโs submission was coordinated by DFC Jason Dean.ย Throughout the year DFC Dean coordinated events and kept track of the various activities that were conducted in the areas of traffic safety.ย DFC Dean kept meticulous records all year long and had to condense all efforts into a binder that was submitted to the State Highway Administration to be judged for the Sheriffโs Office Group category.ย His submission won first place and scored a perfect 100.ย As a result of his efforts, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office received recognition in the form of a plaque and a $5,000 award which will be used to purchase additional radar units.ย
DFC Deanโs hard work was also submitted to the International Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Challenge and his submission earned the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office a second place finish for the nation.ย On August 2nd, 2012 Sheriff Mike Evans, 1st/Sgt. Todd Ireland and DFC Dean attended the awards ceremony in San Diego, California where they were presented with a plaque for this remarkable effort.ย This was the first time the Sheriff’s Office participated in the National Law Enforcement Challenge.ย
Sheriff Mike Evans said, โThis is a wonderful award and is directly attributed to the incredible effort put forth by DFC Dean. We are very proud of how he continues to represent the Calvert County Sheriffโs Office.ย Congratulations to DFC Dean for a job well done!!โย
