CALVERT COUNTY

Family Paint Party on January 31 (6:30 to 8 pm), located at O’Gannigans Irish Pub, 98 Solomons Island Rd, Prince Frederick, MD – “Mountain Views” canvas painting (instructor led). All participants will receive a 16″ x 20″ blank canvas, 3 brushes (small for fine details, medium and large for more coverage), 5 primary paint colors (black, white, blue, red, and yellow) and all other necessary painting supplies. You may take away, add, or choose your own colors.  Just make it your own and take it home with you. O’Gannigans is a family friendly venue.  Therefore, all ages are welcome. Price does not include food or beverages which may be purchased separately through the venue.  Please come early for great happy hour pricing. Valentine Makers Market on February 1 (9 am to 2 pm), located at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, 13470 Dowell Road, Solomons, MD – he Valentine Maker’s Market is THE place to find thoughtful and handmade gifts for all the sweeties in your life. There is always a fabulous variety of options, including small batch chocolates, jewelry, leather goods, pottery, clothing, and so much more! You will find INDOOR & OUTDOOR vendors offering a wide selection of homemade, handmade or homegrown products, and every is made with LOVE! Snow/rain date:  Saturday, February 8, 2025. FOOD TRUCK:  I Love Munchies. Admission to the market area is free. Reservations are not needed, just come! Pet friendly for well-behaved pets on a leash.

History and Archaeology Walk ‘n’ Talk: Life Along the Patuxent on February 1 (11 am), located at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, 10515 Mackall Rd, Saint Leonard, MD – For the past 9,000 years, people from different backgrounds have called JPPM home in one form or another. From the Native Americans to the English settlers, people have sculpted the land along the picturesque Patuxent River to fit their needs. Come take a leisurely hour and a half walk along the beautiful river shore, as we explore a recreated Native American village and move along to a 17th century tobacco plantation. Walks begin at the Visitor Center at 11 a.m. No registration required. This free program is generously supported by the Friends of JPPM.

History and Archaeology Walk ‘n’ Talk: Dig Into the Story on February 1 (1 pm), located at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, 10515 Mackall Rd, Saint Leonard, MD – How are we able to interpret the history of the different people that have called JPPM home for the past 9,000 years? The Park is home to numerous sites ranging from Native American, Colonial, to tenant farmers and others. Join in an hour and a half strolling conversation on how we know what we know from the past and how we are able to tell their stories. Walks begin at the Visitor Center at 1 p.m. No registration required. This free program is generously supported by the Friends of JPPM.

Gallery Reception: Head In The Clouds on February 1 (1 to 4 pm), located at Artworks @ 7th, 8905 Chesapeake Ave, North Beach, MD – Stop by the first Saturday of every month for a gallery opening reception and meet the artists! 

Pop-in with Poppie on February 1 (1:30 pm to 2:30 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Make your Saturday afternoon memorable by coming to visit with our very own Pop Star “Poppie,” our Virginia Opossum. You can join the Poppie paparazzi in the museum lobby with one of our educational interpreters, learn all kinds of fun possum facts, and visit our Museum Store for possum fan gear. Since the welfare of our animals is our primary concern, Poppie’s ability to visit with her adoring public may occasionally be subject to change on short notice.

Music Bingo on February 1 (4 to 6 pm), located at Mully’s Brewery, 141 Schooner Ln, Ste 15, Prince Frederick, MD – Join us for MUSIC BINGO! Listen to some of your favorite songs and see if you can be the first one to call out BINGO!

Beyond the Displays: Artifact Stories on February 2 (1:30 pm to 2:30 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Discover the history behind the emblem from a paddle wheel boat, the tools found in the blacksmith shop, and the Gov. R. M. McLane name board. Hear captivating stories about WWII’s impact on the Solomons community and uncover hidden pictures within the museum murals. It’s a unique opportunity to delve into local history and see these artifacts in a new light. Included with museum admission.

CMM Summer Camp Registration Opens on February 3 (10 am), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – CMM Summer Camp registration opens on Monday, February 3! Links to register online will go live at 10 a.m.!

Teddy Bear Valentine’s Tea Party on February 4 (11 am to 1 pm), located at Butterflies & Wishes Tea & Sweets, 3819 Harbor Rd, Chesapeake Beach, MD – Reserve a spot with your precious little bear. Sea Squirts: Food Chain on February 6 (10:15 am and 11:15 am), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Children 18 months to 3 years, with an adult, are invited to discover the museum together through music, stories, and special activities. Join us for story time and a craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 25-40 minutes. Cost is free with museum admission. Sign up at the Admissions Desk when you arrive.

“Chicken & Biscuits” Performance taking place until February 2 (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at various times), located at Port Tobacco Players, 508 Charles St, La Plata, MD – Can rivaling sisters Baneatta and Beverly bury their father without killing each other?   1. call around + see which church’s are offering a ride to the Maryland March for Life. Of course the right to life movement hasn’t packed- up + gone home despite the constitution amendment.
