Bryans Road, MD – Two adults and one child were displaced Wednesday, April 29 at 10:15 a.m. when a malfunctioning furnace did significant damage to a one-story single family residence at 1400 Marshall Drive, Bryans Road.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshall’s Office, the fire was discovered by a boater who called 911.

Forty volunteer firefighters from Bryans Road, La Plata, Waldorf, Accokeek, Marbury, Indian Head and Potomac Heights fire departments took approximately 15 minutes to knock back the blaze.

The house, owned by R. Milstead and rented by Matthew and Kyrie Travis sustained $40,000 to the structure and another $20,000 for contents.

Investigators determined that the accidental fire was caused by a malfunctioning furnace located within the laundry room.

As a result of the fire, two adults and one child were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
