NORTH BEACH, Md. — Calvert County Library’s newest building is celebrating its two-year anniversary on April 16, 2026. The library opened at the new location at 4100 5th St., North Beach, MD, in 2024, after breaking ground in 2022. The new library has brought new events and opened the door to a world of books and reading – and to some incredible bay views.
The original Twin Beaches library branch was a much smaller building in Chesapeake Beach – the new building was conceptualized and planned to accommodate the growing needs of the community for an updated space that goes beyond traditional book borrowing.
In addition to being a place to get books, the library has tons of weekly events for people of all ages, like their popular storytime series, and is a place to gather with friends or make new ones. The library also offers special events that bring in guest speakers.
Plus, the library has study and meeting rooms, public computers, printing and copying help, and a state-of-the-art makerspace.
If you haven’t been to the Twin Beaches library branch yet, here’s what you can look forward to. If you already enjoy the library, maybe you’re missing some of the cool features. Or, you can simply browse through all the resources you use as much as possible. In summary, the library has something for everyone.

3rd Floor Kids’ Space
The third floor is the dedicated kids’ area and has educational, sensory toys for kids plus plenty of places for adults to sit. You’ll find a farmer’s market with a cash register and food toys, puzzles, a building area with Legos and tracks, and much more.
Older kids and teens have access to books for their age group and computers where they can do schoolwork or play educational games. The teen side of the kids’ floor is a little quieter to give older kids their own space.

Makerspace
The Makerspace is also on the third floor and is for ages 8 and up. Children ages 8–11 may work with an equipment-certified adult to use the machines in the makerspace but may not operate the equipment themselves. Children ages 12–15 may operate machinery with the assistance of an equipment-certified adult.
So what can you do in The Makerspace? The space has sewing machines, a 3D printer, a vinyl and engraving machine, a vinyl printer, embroidery machine, podcast studio, and more.
You can learn more about the makerspace online or by visiting the library.

The 2nd Floor – Adult Books And Study Space
The library’s second floor is dedicated to books for adults. In addition to fiction and nonfiction, the second floor has plenty of tables and comfy armchairs for people to sit and read or work – in addition to a handful of outdoor tables for shaded water views.
This floor is also where you’ll find the study and meeting rooms. Library staff recommend booking a study or meeting room in advance to make sure you have the time you need. The rooms get booked quickly, so be sure to plan ahead.

The Views
This library is special because it captures the beauty of being right on the Chesapeake Bay. You can get stunning bay views on both floors – or even from the parking garage.

At The BayNet, we’re thrilled to be able to celebrate our libraries of Southern Maryland and wish the Twin Beaches library many more years of books and community.
