HUGHESVILLE, Md — On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 10:22 p.m., a serious three-vehicle collision on Leonardtown Road and Old Leonardtown Road in Hughesville required a significant emergency response. Initial reports indicated a vehicle fire and entrapment, but responding crews discovered no fire and confirmed two individuals were trapped inside one of the vehicles.

Squad 2 arrived first on the scene and began assessing the situation. Emergency crews worked quickly to remove the driver- and passenger-side walls and roof of one vehicle to extricate the two trapped individuals. In total, five patients were involved in the collision, with three requiring transport to medical facilities.

Two of the injured individuals were airlifted to a trauma center by Trooper 2 from a designated landing site at Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO). Other patients were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for treatment.

Battalion Chief 2 held command at the scene, coordinating efforts from Hughesville Volunteers and mutual aid from surrounding departments. Crews operated on-site for over an hour to ensure all individuals received medical attention and to clear the area for traffic.
