Traffic on Route 5 north of Callaway was brought to a standstill Tuesday night when volunteer firefighters and rescue squad members tended to a two vehicle crash that left two people hurt.
Emergency workers were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. to the crash near Winters Lane in Chingville.
Before 6:30 p.m., an ambulance each from Second District and Lexington Park volunteer rescue squads had brought an injured person to St. Mary’s Hospital. Both subjects were reported to have non-life threatening injuries.
The vehicles were cleared and the roadway and firefighters cleared the scene by 7 p.m., but not before most drivers made U-turns and created their own detours.
