At 9:40 p.m. July 4, two men in their 50s were hospitalized after being burned by over-the-counter fireworks outside a residence on Woodland Way, Owings.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal reports Craig Tyler was flown by helicopterย to MedStar in Washington for treatment for first-and second-degree burns.

Michael Saulino was treated at Calvert Memorial Hospital for first-and second-degree burns. The injuries to both men are considered non life-threatening.

The injuries were caused by ground-based sparkling devices (cones and fountains), which are legal for consumer use in Calvert County.
