LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Two men are facing attempted murder charges following an October 2024 shooting in Lexington Park that left a victim with three gunshot wounds. Charles Henry Thompson Jr., 30, and Mark Albert Fenwick Jr., 32, were both indicted in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court in November 2024 and remain in custody as they await trial.

The shooting occurred on October 30, 2024, at an apartment complex on Valley Estates Drive. Deputies with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 8:14 PM and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses identified Thompson and Fenwick as the attackers, with Thompson alleged to have fired the shots.

Surveillance footage captured Thompson initiating the attack by striking the victim before retrieving a firearm. The victim, who reportedly raised their hands to disengage, was shot as they attempted to stand. Investigators allege Fenwick joined the attack, repeatedly striking and kicking the victim while Thompson stole their cellphone, valued at $850. Deputies also recovered two 9mm shell casings at the scene. Before fleeing, Thompson allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle and pointed a firearm at another individual.

Fenwick was arrested on November 19, 2024, shortly after his warrant was issued. Thompson was arrested on January 15, 2025, on multiple warrants, including those tied to the shooting and a civil body attachment related to a separate child support case. Thompson’s January 15 arrest has brought renewed attention to the case due to the severity of the charges.

Thompson faces charges of attempted first- and second-degree murder, armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, firearm offenses, and theft. Fenwick is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, and assault. If convicted of attempted first-degree murder, both defendants face potential life imprisonment, while the armed robbery charge alone carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Court records indicate Thompson appeared for a bail review hearing on January 16, 2025, where Judge David W. Densford ordered him held without bond for the criminal charges. He was released on personal recognizance for the unrelated child support case. Thompson’s trial for the shooting is scheduled for June 2, 2025, while Fenwick’s jury trial is set to begin on March 24, 2025.

This case underscores the intersection of violent crime and broader legal challenges, highlighting the persistence of law enforcement in addressing such cases. Authorities encourage anyone with additional information to contact the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. Happy to see the Judge is finally understanding that individuals accused of a violent crime need to be held until trial.
