HANOVER, Md. — Emmanuel Kyler had just graduated from the University of Maryland. On Friday night, he was celebrating that milestone with friends in Hanover—a brief moment of joy before the road home changed everything.

In the early hours of June 21, 2025, Kyler was struck while crossing Dorsey Road to meet his Uber. “He decided to take an Uber home, assuring his friends he would be fine waiting alone,” his family wrote in a public statement. Moments later, he was hit by two vehicles. The first driver fled. The second stopped and performed CPR until help arrived.

Now, Kyler is fighting for his life at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He remains in critical condition, on a ventilator, with injuries including “a broken neck, leg, arm, pelvis, head and spinal cord trauma.” Surgeons have stabilized his neck with rods, and more operations lie ahead.

To those who know him, Kyler is more than a victim. He’s a son, a scholar, and a young man who had just stepped into the next chapter of his life. “The emotional and financial toll on Emmanuel’s family is immense,” relatives said. His mother rushed to the hospital the moment she got the call—only to find her son unconscious and gravely hurt.

His family’s GoFundMe campaign has raised over $9,500 to date toward a $100,000 goal, as the cost of care mounts. Donations will go toward “medical bills for surgeries and hospital stays, rehabilitation and physical therapy, necessary medical equipment and medications,” as well as travel expenses so his loved ones can stay near him.

As the family prays for healing, they’re also seeking justice. The driver of the first vehicle has not been found. Anne Arundel County Police are investigating and believe the fleeing car was bronze in color, heading westbound on Dorsey Road near Aviation Boulevard. No arrests have been made.

“Emmanuel’s family is also seeking justice for this tragic event,” the fundraiser states. “We urge anyone with information about the accident or the vehicles involved to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Department… Your support in this regard is invaluable.”

Kyler’s path forward will be long and uncertain, but his family remains hopeful. “We believe that he will make a full recovery,” they wrote.

  1. So you mean to tell me that a racist woman can raise over a million dollars on her Go Fund Me but this young man’s family has only received $9500. Come on y’all, we can do better
