Update from the Maryland State Fire Marshal:
On September 10, 2014 around 2:30 p.m., the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office served Carl Knott (57) with a Criminal Summons for Malicious Burning, Second Degree. The charges stem from a fire on Saturday, September 6th around 7:55 pm. Approximately 20 firefighters responded to the area of Jetson Lane and Brown Road in Hollywood for a reported vehicle fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the RV camper fire within five minutes.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and determined the fire to have been intentionally set. Subsequent investigation determined the owner, Carl Knott, intentionally set his RV camper on fire. Damages to the property were estimated to be $1,000.
If convicted, Knott could face up to 18 months of imprisonment and/or $500 in fines.
Original Report: A fire that damaged an unregistered, uninsured camper trailer was deliberately set, state officials reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze occurred Saturday, Sept. 6 shortly before 8 p.m. on Browns Road in Hollywood.
The investigating officer, Dfm. Caryn McMahon, identified the owner of the 1993 Prowler Camper-Trailer as Carl A. Knott. The fire was discovered by a neighbor.
McMahon stated the blaze was started inside the camper. No injuries were reported. Twenty firefighters from Leonardtown and Hollywood were dispatched to the scene and had the flames under control in five minutes. No injuries were reported and damage to the structure is estimated at $1,000.
No arrests were reported and the investigation is continuing. Anyone who might have information that that aid the investigation is asked to call the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6820.
