UPDATE: House fire is under investigation

State authorities are continuing their probe into a Sunday afternoon, Dec. 21 house fire in Calvert County. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze damaged a two-story, wood-frame house on Christiana Parran Road in Chesapeake Beach. Thirty-five volunteer firefighters from North Beach, Dunkirk, Huntingtown and Prince Frederick were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze around 1:30 p.m. The volunteers brought the flames under control in 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.
“The fire began on the second floor deck of the residence,” Dfm. John Nelson reported. The estimated damage is $100,000. Nelson reported the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross. Nelson identified the homeowner as Rita Vermillion.

UPDATE, 3:31 p.m.: According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Christina Parran Road is now open for all traffic.

Chesapeake Beach, MD – At approximately 1:38 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21, there was report of a house fire at 4226 Christiana Parran Road, Chesapeake Beach.

Safety 1 responded and discovered a two-story single family dwelling with fire showing.

There was a report of an explosion to the rear of the structure which authorities are stating was a propane tank.

There is a partial roof collapse as a result of the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting four adults and three children who were displaced by the fire.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office reports a road closure on Christiana Parran Road from Hallburn Drive to Christiana Court due to the fire.

Use alternate routes at this time.
