UPDATE 10/21/2011: POLICE REPORT, NAME RELEASED
On October 15, 2011 at approximately 7:44 a.m. members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the area of MD Route 4 N/B and Chaney Road in Dunkirk for a report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Due to the type of the collision and subsequent vehicle fire the operator of the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.
On October 19, 2011 the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office received a confirmation of the driver’s identity from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland. The operator of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser was positively identified as Matthew Ryan Cwiek, a 19 year old male, resident of Owings, Maryland. The cause of death is pending the official autopsy report from the OCME, Baltimore.

UPDATE 10/17/2011 8:50AM: POLICE REPORT
On October 15, 2011 at approximately 0744 hours members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the area of MD Route 4 N/B and Chaney Road, Dunkirk, Maryland 20745 for a report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle. Upon arrival units located a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser off the roadway engulfed in flames. Members of the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire.
Preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser was traveling northbound on MD Route 4. Just prior to the intersection of MD Route 4 and Chaney Road the vehicle left
