Citizens are advised that Charles Street (MD Route 6) in La Plata, from La Plata Road (MD Route 488) to Bel Alton Newtown Road is currently closed until further notice due to a fire in the area.
Citizens traveling in the area should use alternative travel routes to avoid the closure. Citizens are encouraged to monitor local news stations for traffic updates.

UPDATE: THE FIRE STARTED AT A SALVAGE YARD. ALL CHARLES COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENTS RESPONDED AS WELL AS OTHER COUNTIES. 115 FIRE PERSONNEL HAVE BEEN BATTLING THE FIRE. MOST OF THE FIRE HAS BEEN CONTAINED. WILL UPDATE AS WE GET INFORMATION.
