MECHANICSVILLE, Md. โ€” An investigation is underway after a vehicle struck two pedestrians in Mechanicsville before crashing into the Big Dogs Paradise building on Sunday afternoon. The incident resulted in what were determined to be non-life-threatening injuries, though a medevac was initially requested due to the nature of the call.

The collision was reported on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 1:52 p.m. Emergency crews were dispatched to the business, located at 28765 Three Notch Road, for a motor vehicle accident involving a structure. Dispatch notes confirmed that two pedestrians were struck by the vehicle, which then hit the building.

First responders arrived on the scene and began to assess the situation. In addition, fire department personnel evaluated the building and quickly reported that it had sustained no structural damage from the impact. Medical crews, meanwhile, made contact with the two pedestrians who were struck.

A medevac was requested for at least one of the patients. Consequently, a landing zone was established at Mechanicsville Elementary School for the United States Park Police helicopter, Eagle 1. However, after a full medical assessment on the scene, commanders reported that both patients had only non-life-threatening injuries.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the collision. For more information on pedestrian safety, you can visit the Maryland Highway Safety Office website. This is a developing story.
