Cody M. Poore

Huntingtown, MD – A Calvert County man, is facing drug charges stemming from a vehicle check that occurred Jan. 28 outside a residence on Old Plum Point Road in Huntingtown. According to District Court documents filed by the arresting officer—Deputy V. O’Donnell of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 7:20 p.m. he went to the house on Old Plum Point Road to arrest a suspect, identified as Brandon Cornwell. “Mr. Cornwell was arrested inside the house, and he was advised that his vehicle interior light was on the outside,” O’Donnell stated. At the house at the time of Cornwell’s arrest was a man identified as Cody Matthew Poore, 22 of Huntingtown. “Mr. Cornwell asked if we could follow Mr. Poore out and turn off the light and I agreed,” O’Donnell stated. “I followed Mr. Poore out to the blue Dodge Charger. The driver’s side window was down, and I could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle passenger compartment.”

O’Donnell stated in court papers that when Poore opened the driver’s side door to turn the light off, he saw “a silver grinder sitting on the center console. I observed a yellow smoking device and a prescription bottle sitting on the passenger side door armrest.”

According to O’Donnell, Poore admitted to being “in the car smoking weed” and told the officer all the drug-related items were his, the court documents stated.

When searching Poore, the deputy discovered a pill bottle with its label destroyed.

“Inside the bottle were 12 pink pills that Mr. Poore stated were Adderall and one blue and white pill he stated was Vyvanse,” O’Donnell stated in court documents. “Mr. Poore stated he has a prescription for the medications, but I was unable to locate one. Mr. Poore stated he carries pills together, so he doesn’t have to carry around all his medications.”

Poore was subsequently charged with controlled dangerous substance (CDS) possession-not marijuana and CDS possession of marijuana. Poore could face four years in jail and fines totaling $25,500 if found guilty on both charges. He was taken to the Calvert County Detention Center and later released on his own recognizance.

Poore has a District Court hearing on the matter tentatively scheduled for May 18 at 1 p.m.
