Cody M. Poore

Huntingtown, MD – A Calvert County man, is facing drug charges stemming from a vehicle check that occurred Jan. 28 outside a residence on Old Plum Point Road in Huntingtown. According to District Court documents filed by the arresting officerโ€”Deputy V. Oโ€™Donnell of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, at approximately 7:20 p.m. he went to the house on Old Plum Point Road to arrest a suspect, identified as Brandon Cornwell. โ€œMr. Cornwell was arrested inside the house, and he was advised that his vehicle interior light was on the outside,โ€ Oโ€™Donnell stated. At the house at the time of Cornwellโ€™s arrest was a man identified as Cody Matthew Poore, 22 of Huntingtown. โ€œMr. Cornwell asked if we could follow Mr. Poore out and turn off the light and I agreed,โ€ Oโ€™Donnell stated. โ€œI followed Mr. Poore out to the blue Dodge Charger. The driverโ€™s side window was down, and I could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle passenger compartment.โ€

Oโ€™Donnell stated in court papers that when Poore opened the driverโ€™s side door to turn the light off, he saw โ€œa silver grinder sitting on the center console. I observed a yellow smoking device and a prescription bottle sitting on the passenger side door armrest.โ€

According to Oโ€™Donnell, Poore admitted to being โ€œin the car smoking weedโ€ and told the officer all the drug-related items were his, the court documents stated.

When searching Poore, the deputy discovered a pill bottle with its label destroyed.

โ€œInside the bottle were 12 pink pills that Mr. Poore stated were Adderall and one blue and white pill he stated was Vyvanse,โ€ Oโ€™Donnell stated in court documents. โ€œMr. Poore stated he has a prescription for the medications, but I was unable to locate one. Mr. Poore stated he carries pills together, so he doesnโ€™t have to carry around all his medications.โ€

Poore was subsequently charged with controlled dangerous substance (CDS) possession-not marijuana and CDS possession of marijuana. Poore could face four years in jail and fines totaling $25,500 if found guilty on both charges. He was taken to the Calvert County Detention Center and later released on his own recognizance.

Poore has a District Court hearing on the matter tentatively scheduled for May 18 at 1 p.m.
